European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is going to expand investment cooperation with Belarus in finances, transport, energy, and public utilities, EBRD Vice President Philip Bennett said following the meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.
“We will continue supporting the private sector, which proved successful during last several years. We are also going to increase our investment presence in transport and public utilities,” Philip Bennett said.
In particular, he mentioned that the EBRD will partake in the project to reconstruct the M10 highway section Russian border – Gomel – Kobrin, water purification and waste treatment projects.
“We reached important agreements on cooperation in energy, with regard to increasing energy efficiency and energy security of Belarus. We are also going to increase our investment presence in the Belarusian banking and finance sectors,” Philip Bennett noted. “We have been invited to take part in a number of projects in non-banking and finance sectors. We are interested in this proposal. Given the growing state support, in the next two or three years we are going to increase our investment presence in various sectors of Belarus' economy as part of the planned privatization.”
Philip Bennett stressed that the EBRD is fully satisfied with the current level of cooperation between the Belarusian government and the private sector of the country.
